It is certainly a fun and smart analogy. The most remarkable feature of “Funky Monks” are the amazing rythm changes.

Being one of the most iconic and beloved songs of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, it was released as a single in 1991. Quickly did this track become one of the band’s biggest hits and remains a fan favorite to this day. The song features a simple yet incredibly effective guitar riff by John Frusciante, which sets the emotional tone for the entire song. Anthony Kiedis‘ lyrics, which describe his feelings of isolation and loneliness. The song’s unforgettable chorus, which builds to a soaring climax, is one of the most memorable moments in the band’s entire discography. By the way, the singers who performed the chorus were John Frusciante´s mother and her friends.
I Could Have Lied – 2º

Nevertheless, there are some tracks which does not feel as great as others, such as “Sir Psycho Sexy”, “The Greeting Song” or the self titled song “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”. Despite these issues, I reckon this is one of the most significant albums not only for the Funk Rock, but also for the Rock genre itself.
